Man Utd have sent scouts to watch Serbian 19 year old Marko Grujic, according to reports in the Mail, but will have to bat off interest from Chelsea for the midfielder.
The Premiership rivals are said to be fighting for the Red Star Belgrade youngster, who at 6'3 shone in the local derby against FK Rad Beograd at the weekend, with a spectacular 30 yard goal marking a 3-0 win.
With some stars of United's current midfield heading towards retirement, namely Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger, Van Gaal knows he must plan for the future if he is to build a strong title winning side.
Grujic has already been compared to Chelsea's Nemanja Matic, and the Blues are known for their ties to the Belgrade club.
It's understood Red Star Belgrade would want a figure around £3m for Grujic. What do you think United and Chelsea fans? Let us know in the comments below.
