Manchester United defeated Manchester City 4-0 in the U21 Premier League last night. Old Trafford was the stage and 17,000 fans came to watch as United put in a mighty performance against one of the country's best U21 sides.
James Wilson opened the scoring with a cool finish as United took the lead early on.
Then it was Adnan Januzaj's turn to show that he still has what it takes to be successful at the top level. The Belgian showed the kind of penetration United are lacking in the first team as he scored a stunning solo effort.
The game was all but won when Ashley Fletcher latched onto a brilliant low cross from Wilson and fired home to make it 3-0 to the home side.
They say save the best till last and that's exactly what United did. Matty Willock, an ex-Arsenal academy player, curled in an unstoppable effort to cap what was a ruthlessly dominant display from Manchester United.
It may only be the U21s, but a derby victory is always sweet and Manchester United fans will be suitably impressed with the talent coming through. City are still flying high and regarded as one of the best academies in England, but this crushing defeat will cut deep.
