One of the most promising footballers in the country is West Ham’s 16-year old defender Reese Oxford. At an age when he should still be doing a paper round, Oxford was named as a substitute for the Hammers’ Capital One Cup match with Sheffield United earlier this season.
Oxford is being fast-tracked for first-team action by Sam Allardyce, not least because West Ham are battling to convince the 6ft 3” youngster to sign a contact committing himself to the club.
The England youth international is not surprisingly attracting attention from the Premier League’s biggest clubs, who all quite fancy the idea of picking up the next Rio Ferdinand for next to nothing.
Manchester United are pushing hard to sign Oxford, with Arsenal and Chelsea reputedly trying to keep the young talent in the capital.
