Chelsea are reportedly ready to hijack Manchester United's rumoured deal for Zenit St Petersburg's Belgian star Axel Witsel.
Witsel, 26, is central midfield player who was linked to some of Europe's biggest clubs before he saw dollar signs and joined Zenit. Now it seems he wants to return to Western Europe and prove his worth in the big leagues.
Witsel is often referred to as a complete midfielder as he has the combativeness of a defensive player, whilst possessing the technique and creative eye of an attacking maestro.
Manchester United were heavily linked with Witsel before the purchases of Sebastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin. Now, with their interest cooling, it seems Chelsea are ready to pounce with a £24m move.
Witsel is seen as a good, more rounded replacement for John Obi-Mikel who is expected to be sold this window.
