Arsene Wenger today confirmed the news all Arsenal fans were dreading: Alexis Sanchez will miss the season's opening games against Chelsea and West Ham.
The Gunners take on Chelsea in the Community Shield on August 2nd before the season opener against West Ham on the 9th.
Sanchez's return to the starting line-up will be delayed due to the Copa America tournament this summer, with the player taking the winning penalty in the final to help his native Chile upset Argentina in Santiago earlier this month.
Speaking in Singapore, Wenger said "He'll be back with us on Aug. 3 and it takes about three weeks to competitive".
Both Chelsea and West Ham will know the importance of the playmaker to Arsenal's morale, and will look to exploit this to get their campaigns off to a winning start.
