Shot a few months after the end of WWII, this hi-res colour footage from Berlin shows what day-to-day life was like in post-war Germany, an idea barely comprehensible to us today.

This Friday marks the 70th anniversary of VE Day, commemorating the day the allies formally accepted the surrender of Germany.

You can read all the history books you like, but without footage like this of women putting their washing out in bombed out homes, we would have no idea of the reality of living through a war of this scale. It's truly incredible.
