Yet Another Reason to Hate Heavy Metal: Megadeth Endorse Rick Santorum

Rick Santorum has been tipped as the next Republican leader - a worrying prospect, made even worse by an endorsement from Megadeath

I just found another reason to hate Heavy Metal. I know right, just throw it on the pile and carry on. But this is quite a major one. It’s more important than the general depressing nature of the genre, or that no Heavy Metal band members have yet worked out how to use a razor.

The lead singer from the Death Metal band Megadeth recently endorsed Rick Santorum. This raises a couple of questions. It’s Heavy Metal, can he really be claimed to be a singer? And why would he endorse Santorum, a sweater vest wearing Deep South Catholic?

I should probably explain who Santorum is. He used to be the Senator for Pennsylvania and is running to be the President of the United States of America. Which seems fair enough until you remember his one flaw; he’s completely evil.

Santorum is extremely homophobic. He even equated homosexuality to paedophilia and bestiality. Obviously that unflattering comparison upset a lot of people and he received hate messages from millions of paedophiles. But what position is Rick Santorum really in to make these judgements. Is he a homosexual? No. Is he a beastophile? No. Is a he a paedophile? Well, he is Catholic.

But what position is Rick Santorum really in to make these judgements. Is he a homosexual? No. Is he a beastophile? No. Is a he a paedophile? Well, he is Catholic.

Surely such a man couldn’t actually get elected, right? Wrong. He is the front runner of the Republicans to be the next president. That means of all the Republican candidates trying to be President he is the most probable to win. And that’s worrying for both him and the world. It’s worrying for him because he’s the front runner and I’m not sure he’s comfortable having all those men behind him. And it’s worrying for him because the President is supposed to be the leader of the free world. If Santorum’s elected it won’t be a free world.

Not since Santorum has made it policies of his to ban contraception, absolutely any form of birth control, abortion and sodomy. Ban sodomy? Apart from the obvious issues to human rights there how would you even do that logistically? How can you tell if a gay person has been having sex? Get the police to monitor Vaseline sales in the local area? Under Santorum’s rule of terror the police would be allowed to stop you in your car and breathalyse you for drinking alcohol or sucking cock. How would you even enforce that law? What would you do? Send gay people to jail? Right, because there’s no gay sex in jail. It seems more than a little hypocritical considering that Santorum can hate the gays with such passion and then want to introduce tax cuts that would bugger the economy.

But it isn’t only homosexuals he hates. He’s a racist and the man wants to ban abortions, even in cases of incestuous rape. Well, to be fair if you can abort the babies of incestuous rape the population of the Deep South would undoubtedly half.

Fortunately, it would appear his campaign is flagging somewhat. Santorum has been searching for a place to host his next rally but he can’t actually find anywhere. Why? Was Hell already booked? Well if he’s looking for a place to hold his rallies may I suggest Nuremburg?

He’s even stooped to doing publicity stunts, such as sponsoring a race car for the NASCAR Daytona500 race. And he’s missed a great opportunity to show his environmental side. If they’d converted the car to biomass they could have run it all day on his bullshit. At least it proves that the Santorum campaign staff and I have something in common; we both want to see Rick Santorum plastered all over the side of a car.

Even his publicity photos, such as one of him posing in front of a full bookcase, suggest he’s out of touch when it comes to voters. The people of the Deep South don’t read. And if that really is Santorum’s bookshelf then how many copies of Mein Kampf does the guy need?

I’m still not sure why Megadeth support him. Although Megadeth is a worryingly apt name for a group that endorses the candidate who voted against a bill to give US soldiers in Afghanistan body armour that was actually bulletproof. Maybe it was free publicity for the band. But no matter how much publicity it got me I would never endorse Santorum. I want him to be hanged from his testicles off the Golden Gate Bridge while tourists take turns sodomising him with a broomstick.

He makes me angry. He really does. So angry I might listen to some heavy metal.

If you like it, Pass it on

fuck your hipster elitism, fuck your backwards country and fuck off.

jetl76 9:39 am, 3-Apr-2012

I'm not sure that your dislike of heavy metal has anything to do with this nutters policies. I don't think that anyone in the metal community (if indeed, one exists) considers dave mustaine and his has-been band to be their spokesperson.

Jimi Limpet 9:45 am, 3-Apr-2012

Good argument, beepsandblips, good argument.

Harry Paterson 9:53 am, 3-Apr-2012

This is poor, Luke. Sorry, but it is. And lazy. Your trendy hipster sensibilities might well be offended by metal but it's of zero significance (and not even remotely typical of the musicians who populate the genre) that Dave Mustain supports the unhinged Santorum. Why not, for example, cite Tom Morello and his tireless and principled activism instead as being representative of the metal scene? The link between Santorum and metal isn't even tenuous, not that you've even tried to draw some conclusions equating to metal musicians being predisposed to politics of the type espoused by Santorum; it's non-existent. Final point; This line, "Obviously that unflattering comparison upset a lot of people and he received hate messages from millions of paedophiles" is both tasteless and grotesque.

Martin Dugdale 10:12 am, 3-Apr-2012

Mate, Megadeth are NOT a death metal band! That's just one reason why this is possibly the shittest, most ill-written articles in Sabotage Times' history. And for the record, I do NOT endorse Santorum at all. Sabotage Times, you need to perhaps be a little more discerning with what articles you publish. This is juvenile detritus.

Harry Paterson 10:26 am, 3-Apr-2012

'death metal'??? Ooh, I missed that! Now that's some howler! Ho ho ho!

jetl76 10:46 am, 3-Apr-2012

Santorum would be a great name for a metal band though.

Sam Pearce 10:59 am, 3-Apr-2012

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_presidential_primaries,_2012 Look at the current delegate count, popular vote, states carried, and current vote percentage. Then explain exactly how Santorum is the front runner.

The One True Ploff 11:10 am, 3-Apr-2012

To quote Buzz Lightyear; 'You're a sad and strange little man and you have my pity'.

Emily Anarchy 12:33 pm, 3-Apr-2012

Was the Megadeth endorsement posted on Apr 1, by any chance? In any case, suspect Dave Mustaine is taking the mickey..

Scott Allen 12:41 pm, 3-Apr-2012

Ok first off, go fuck yourself! People like YOU give metal a bad name! Just because one man or band agree with some bullshit policy or whatever doesn't mean everyone does who like metal. Clearly your not intelligent enough to understand metal so you should just leave it at that and keep the genre out of it.

Dan The Man 1:11 pm, 3-Apr-2012

Bloody hell, this article is absolutely pants. So many articles on ST are insightful, witty, brutal and timely. This ain't one. There's more logic in a One Direction fan's blog.

g mitchell 1:33 pm, 3-Apr-2012

I've read a few of your articles before which led me to the conclusion that you're clearly an ill informed idiot but this is the worst one you have decided to share with us. If this is the level your research and writing amounts to you should probably give up. Sorry but you're shit.

Johnny Drama 2:36 pm, 3-Apr-2012

Shocking. A whole article about a politician nobody cares about who's supported by a rock singer you can't even be bothered to put a name to and who you then blame an entire musical genre for (and the wrong genre at that). Good effort maaaate!

asongtoruin 2:37 pm, 3-Apr-2012

Stupid, lazy article. An objection to Santorum is fair, because he is a complete nutjob. An objection to Dave Mustaine follows similarly, because he has shown himself to have a complete lack of brain cells. But just as Santorum doesn't represent the entire US, Mustaine isn't representative of heavy metal. Go read about Tom Morello's activism as has been suggested, or Greg Puciato (lead singer of The Dillinger Escape Plan) ranting about homophobia (http://www.gregpuciato.com/post/17789892027) or any number of metal blogs who have objected to what Mustaine has said. That you spoke of "the general depressing nature of the genre" suggests you only have the vaguest comprehension of anything to do with heavy metal and, frankly, is too stupid a statement for me to even bother addressing. This appears to be your first article on ST. I hope you actually bother doing some kind of research for your next one instead of making moronic blanket statements. Ta.

geary 2:50 pm, 3-Apr-2012

You are a complete idiot. Death metal? Really? Get your shit together before you make more false claims cheese.

Andy 4:18 pm, 3-Apr-2012

What's your favourite kind of music Luke? How long do you think it would take me to google up a representative of the genre making an idiotic political comment?

Chris 4:34 pm, 3-Apr-2012

Ok couple of things here: 1. Santorum is nowhere near being the frontrunner, that would be Mitt Romney. 2. Megadeth is not a death metal band, forcing me to conclude that you neither know what death metal is nor have you ever listened to Megadeth. 3. The lazy comparison of Santorum to a National Socialist is more unflattering to you than to him. 4. Where on earth did you get the idea to connect a whole genre of music, 'death metal' in this case, to extreme politics like this? The two have absolutely no connection whatsoever. Completely misinformed hipsters like yourself who feel well qualified to mouth off about subjects you - indisputably in this case - clearly know nothing about are one of the big reasons I emigrated. I cannot put into words how utterly shite this was. It'd be something if it was funny, but unfunny, factually incorrect, and pointlessly offensive to people you are prejudiced against? You've ticked every box which says you are a complete and utter mong who shouldn't be left near a keyboard unattended.

Chris 4:39 pm, 3-Apr-2012

Sorry it's me again - just one more thing (hat tip Columbo) - if you expect people to take the time to read your scrawlings, at the very least you could have taken 5 seconds to use Google for a few fact checks. I mean come on, how much effort does it take? I know it's easier to just 'write from the hip' and use your prejudices about people who disagree with you as your inspiration, but at least have enough respect for your readership to put a gloss on it - make up your statistics if it floats your boat, but this is just utter laziness.

Jesus Alvarado 5:21 am, 4-Apr-2012

look, i hate santorum, but i mean seriously? bringing a music genre war into politicis war? you sir are biased as fuck. i can understand not liking metal( i personally like it, but that doesnt mean others HAVE to) because its not some people like, but preaching on why to hate it? wow. also, megadeth is not death metal, they are THRASH metal, thats like saying blink182 is punk, or kesha is rap.

Blake Carrington 1:39 pm, 4-Apr-2012

Reading this makes me think that Luke Terry would make an excellent journo' at the Daily Mail... I'm no fan of Megadeth or 'Metal' itself, but using them / it (and the sweeping generalisation of the headline, a little research Luke will unearth the fucking idiocy of vocalist Dave Mustaine) to make a point about the loon that is Rick Santorum is akin to the arguments made by 6th Form knobbers, short on intellegence but strong on unfounded ego. Come on ST, who's editing this shite?

Ned Black 4:32 pm, 18-Apr-2012

Death Metal my ass! It's called research idiot. Try some one day.

SkullAndBones 7:22 pm, 15-Aug-2012

I stopped reading when you refered Megadeth as "death metal". Just because 'deth' is at the end of 'Megadeth' doesn't make them DEATH metal. Imbecile.

EricS576 11:03 am, 5-Oct-2012

Dude... Megadeth is not death metal. Thrash metal. Also, despite what you or anyone else may think of his beliefs or political opinions, Dave Mustaine is a very talented musician and Megadeth and Heavy Metal is the only f***ing music that matters, as far as I'm concerned. Especially these days, with all the crap music out there.

bluepanda 4:26 pm, 29-Dec-2012

I hate the members of megadeth by their music is great

myleftboot 9:09 am, 6-Apr-2013

Am I the only one who can actually smell Eric thru his post? Dude wash your hair. You stink. Are we sure Dave Mustardstain or whatever isn't actually a fan of the mix of fun and lube created by anal sex? Could well be, the two are easily confused

Joe 1:29 am, 8-Apr-2013

In that case do we have another reason to hate Religion because some priest molested kids?

Rusty 12:02 am, 8-Jun-2013

Megadeth is thrash. Please leave my music out of your clearly biased political views.
