A musical getaway on the Adriatic Coast, Electric Elephant conjures up the original spirit of Ibiza in its seventies and early eighties glory days.

It's billed as five nights and five days of sun, sea, boat parties and DJs on the sun-sparkled Adriatic Coast. Yet is much more than that, as the Electric Elephant is a music festival nestled in the ancient coastal village of Petrcane, where a wonderfully wild mix of music with international DJs and live acts, sit in beautiful harmony. Along with two thousand like-minded souls, it is an escape to a musical getaway, where the original spirit of the unspoilt Ibiza of the seventies and early eighties is evoked.

This is the fourth year that the Electric Elephant crowd have descended upon the very small and very laid back 900-year-old village Petrcane and kingpin Huw Morgan is as excited as ever. “The festival evolved from the same eclectic mix of music we played at Electric Chair (a club under the pavements of downtown Mancunia) ranging from Balearica, to late night futuristic jackin’,” states Morgan. “I guess the one thing the festival allowed was more scope to bring in live music from the acoustic folk, of somebody like Hannah Peel to the more electronic stuff from Four Tet and James Pants. Whilst from a DJ point of view musically there has always been a real mix each and every year from soul and Latin through house and disco to dubstep and techno. Basically everything gets an airing.”

From year one, Morgan has always made a big thing of creating the perfect daytime vibe, so at the beach bar you'll hear everything from film soundtracks to blissed-out soul. “We don't want a daytime rave (there's plenty of time after dark for that), so creating that distinction in the daytime was very important to us. And of course there are the boat parties that are becoming the stuff of legend,” exclaims Morgan. “It's a four-hour round trip out into the beautiful Adriatic with DJs like Andrew Weatherall, The Glimmers and Toddla T all DJing this year.”

With superstar DJs such as Derrick Carter playing alongside Balearic legend (Manchester’s) Balearic Mike with the Lowlife crew and The Unabombers to name just a few five days and five nights of great music and madness seem assured. However as at all festivals it is the surprise acts that keep it fresh and this year Morgan is excited to have Bok Bok from the Nightslugs crew playing, soul vocalist Sampha, and hip hop beats from Star Slinger.

The Late Night Cinema, The Pub Quiz, Massage Area, Volley Ball, a Kids’ Playground all within the festival grounds results in a vibrant festival. Add in the sun and sparkling sea, the village of Petrcane with its evening markets and rustic restaurants serving fresh fish caught that day and olive oil fresh from the local groves, and you have something quite unique.

Electric Elephant runs from 14 – 18 July and all information can be found here
