Neither fighter has even been defeated, and Parker has never been knocked to the canvas. But, it's Joshua that starts favourite for the bout, with bookmakers and fans alike.

 Joshua odds on...

For any recreational bettors, there seems to be little value in a bet on the home favourite. The odds on the Watford born fighter are short; 1/10 at time of writing. For improved value, it's a good idea to look at other Joshua vs Parker predictions

What is the the threat from Parker?

Anyone thinking of placing a bet on Parker to win, needs to look at the young fighter's form prior to this bout. The fact is that you do not get to be WBO heavyweight champion without having a decent pedigree. The New Zealander is coming off a run of 25 wins and no defeats.

Having said all of this, Parker's performance against challenger Hughie Fury, in September last year, was less than convincing. The champion retained his belt, but the fight was a scrappy one and the verdict was a majority decision. It did prove that Parker has great staying power though; a challenge for Joshua who prefers to triumph fast and strong if he can.

What other fighters are saying...

On the face of it, Parker seems to be someone who could cause an upset. So, what do those who know the game think? Although bookmakers' odds seem to suggest that Joshua is almost a certainty to win, WBC champion Deontay Wilder has other ideas. If Joshua does come out the victor, it's Wilder who he could be facing next. Both fighters are keen to unify titles; but Wilder thinks that Parker may cause an upset. He thinks that the underdog has the heart to achieve a win. Evander Holyfield has also been praising the skills of Parker, referring to his strong punches and fast hands.

It seems that Joseph Parker is not without his supporters for the title unification fight on 31 March 2018. The money may be going on Anthony Joshua, as the home talent, but it's certainly worth investing in a bet on a Parker victory, or at the very least looking at options such as whether the fight will go the whole way or not, with a knockout specialist fighting a strong stayer.
