Bags can be tricky territory for guys to navigate, but we all need a good one so lets look at the options. Backpacks are fine, but are a hard habit to break from childhood and once you get to a certain age these are a no-go. It doesn't matter if it cost $300 from Supreme or was free from LA Fitness.

The dispatch bag which began with good intentions has become over engineered and most have evolved into some kind of weird hand luggage thing, normally favoured but those in IT or Jason Bourne style hitmen.

The man bag must be avoided at all costs, sure we've all seen suave looking gents, drinking espressos in Rome or Barcelona carrying them. Not so cool in rainy Britain, but if you can't cope with carrying your wallet, change, phone and keys in your pockets then you deserve to look a plum.

This leads me onto the lovely Barbour Tarras bag and I think its the perfect solution. The simple, utilitarian design has been around for years, originally used for hunting and fishing, this heritage alone gives it a machismo other bags don't have.

Its one of those items thats feels special by virtue of it simplicity. No Goretex / 3M shit going on here, not even any zips, just perfectly stitched canvas and leather with logically placed pockets, fastened by toggles thats yield a firm but fair action.

Its bloody lovely and would be equally at home smuggling cans of G&Ts into Goodwood Revival as carrying a laptop to a meeting. The kind of thing I'd hope to still be using in 20 years time.
