It seems all too often in this country, we are overly eager to dump our jeans and sweaters for shorts and t-shirts. So much so, that as soon as soon as their is a flash of sun in early spring, flip flop sales go through the roof and everyones decked out in vests and shorts keenly anticipating those UV rays. Sure I may be over-exaggerating ever so slightly – but as of yet, we are yet to hit the peak of British summertime. There has been the odd day or two when the decision whether to wear jeans or shorts has been made easy for us – but the annual out of season rain showers have kept the jeans firmly on our legs for the most part.

It’s not all doom and gloom though as we’ve experienced a few heat-waves already, so in preparation for further weather improvements – we thought it ideal time to look some shorts. If you demand a certain quality and durability from your day to day legwear, it is only right that you will expect the same in a pair of shorts – so with that in mind, we have picked out 5 of the best shorts available to you this summer.

As soon as their is a flash of sun in early spring, flip flop sales go through the roof and everyones decked out in vests and shorts keenly anticipating those UV rays.

Engineered Garments Ripstop Fatigue Shorts

These military themed ripstop shorts from Engineered Garments are great alternative to the more common cotton chino short. Features include 2 roomy front pockets with 2 button flap back pockets – allowing plenty of room for your phone, wallet and keys. They are made in the USA, constructed from a 5.5 oz cotton ripstop and also feature an adjustable waist – ideal if you’ve lost your belt.

Post O'alls Menpolini Shorts

For those who prefer a bit of colour on their legs – take a look at the Menpolini shorts from Post Overalls. Coming in a variety of colours and prints, these lightweight five pocket shorts are ideal for the summer heat. The front flap pocket is an ace detail on these shorts, along with the contrasting white stitching. If you’re after something a bit different, these are for you.

Norse Projects Aros Shorts

Based upon the brands successful Aros chino – these cotton twill shorts are essentially a cut off version. They come with 4 pockets, button fly and a relaxed fit. Available in a variety of classic chino colours, Norse Projects continue to provide a great basic summer short.

Albam Climbing Shorts

A more affordable option from Albam, the climbing short comes in 4 colours – the pick of the bunch for us is the vibrant mineral red. These shorts feature an authentic fit with herringbone drawcord waistband and French military metal buckle fastening – combined with a garment wash that results in a great pre worn look and comfortable fit.

Garbstore Double Hunt Short

These straight leg hunting shorts from Garbstore feature double thickness on front upper and rear lower – resulting in one durable short. The contrasting olive panel on the back of the shorts, is a great little feature and a worthy addition to a great functional day to day pair of shorts.
