National Teammate Tells Memphis Depay Not To Join Man Utd
Manchester United have been heavily linked with Memphis Depay (PSV Eindhoven) over the past year. The 21-year-old, who has worked under Louis van Gaal in the Netherlands national side, is rated as one of the best young talents in the world. However, according to the Evening Standard, Eljero Elia, who is on loan at Southampton, has warned Depay against a move to Old Trafford.
Depay has scored 19 goals for PSV this season and the club are all but resigned to him leaving with LVG's United the most likely destination. Spurs have also been linked with the player having sent scouts to watch him on numerous occasions this season. But Elia believes its unnecessary for Depay to move to the Premier League now and he's better off starting a while longer.
Elia told a Dutch outlet: "I think it will be best for him to stay at Eindhoven."
"My feeling is he should play in the Champions League for PSV then he would have the experience of playing at the highest level in his locker before the moves at 22.
"PSV don't need the money and I feel Memphis doesn't need it as he signed a nice contract recently."
Of course, Elia will most likely have no bearing on the transfer, but the comments of fellow professionals can always influence one's decision. Although, it seems Depay is too good not to take the step to the next level.
