The Disappearing Face Of New York City

A new book of stunning photo journalism documents the old facades and shop fronts of New York City, many of which went out of business before the book's completion.

It took photographers James and Karla Murray eight years to take and collect these incredible photos of New York City’s aging store fronts, and in that time one third of the stores they featured have been forced to close. Not only a fascinating look at our recent history, but a brilliant example that true art can be found on every street and in every city.

Barney Greengrass has not disappeared, but maybe it's good that it's included here: if people think it's gone it may make the wait for a table a little shorter!

I used to live across the street from The Mars Bar on 2nd Ave. Such a sad sight to see it get torn down. Fuck gentrification.
