5 Things We Love This Week
We've got your summer wardrobe essentials and holiday reading sorted this week, as well as some incredible food...
The Dawn Patrol by Don Winslow
It’s an old book, but you are going to be on a beach soon, and this surf community based crime thriller is fantastic. Probably his best book after the brilliant The Power Of The Dog. If you don’t know who he is you should check him out - Oliver Stone directed Savages last year, which was based on one of Don’s books. Follow Don here @donwinslow
The tougher material at the pocket opening on these cool Folk shorts means you’re concentrating as your hand goes in, so no dropped phone, keys etc. Nice fit, good length, strong colour perfect for summer.
Another one from FOLK. A lot of so-called “summer” short-sleeved shirts are as heavy as a car blanket, but this Italian fabric is about as light as it comes. Pour the heat on and you’ll still feel unflustered and look good.
We just bumped into our mate Chris who looked immaculate going off to the races, but at closer inspection it became very clear he was in for a very very hot day. Jumping down to J Crew in Lamb’s Conduit Street – or buying online – would have allowed him the opportunity to buy one of these super-light seersucker suits. The perfect summer suit for the man that means business, without parading round in a walking sauna.
Porteña
And finally some fine food. Messi and Maradonna aren’t the only great small things to come out of Argentina. Porteña serves Argentinian street food - basically very tasty mini-Cornish pasties. Our mate Ben Mooge bought these along to the Panini sticker night we held this week. He picked them up from the Porteña shop in the amazing Borough Market, which if you can get over your cynicism about gentrification, has some absolutely great food down there. Looks like you can order online here.
